LAFC ANNOUNCES SIGNING OF MATT EVANS AS HOMEGROWN PLAYER THROUGH 2027

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) officially announced today that 19-year-old midfielder Matt Evans has been promoted to the first team under a "Homegrown Player" contract. The agreement links the Guatemalan international to the institution through the 2027 season, with options to extend for 2028 and 2029.

Evans, who joined the LAFC Academy in 2017 at the age of 11, becomes the second youth player in the organization to make the direct transition from the affiliate side, LAFC2, to the senior squad, following in the footsteps of fellow Guatemalan international Olger Escobar.

Track Record and Performance

During his three seasons in MLS NEXT Pro, the Simi Valley, California native proved to be a key piece in the offensive scheme, recording 13 goals and 7 assists in 56 matches. His goal-scoring ability earned him "Goal of the Matchweek" honors on three occasions during 2025. Additionally, Evans had a standout performance in the 2025 U.S. Open Cup, scoring a brace in the victory against FC Arizona.

International Impact

Evans' promotion coincides with his consolidation within the Guatemala National Team. After representing the United States at youth levels, Evans chose to defend the colors of his mother’s native country. He made his senior international debut under head coach Luis Fernando Tena this past June 11 against Jamaica in World Cup qualifying and was part of the roster for the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup.

"Matt has shown exceptional growth within our academy system and at LAFC2," the official statement reads. "His performance on international stages with Guatemala has validated his competitive maturity, making him deserving of this opportunity with the first team."
