Xelajú MC Debuts with Authority: Historic Rout Over Aurora to Kick Off Clausura 2026
Quetzaltenango – The beginning of the Roberto Hernández era at the helm of Xelajú MC could not have been more spectacular. In a packed Mario Camposeco Stadium this Tuesday, January 20th, the "Superchivo" squad showcased its ambition by defeating Aurora FC with a commanding 4-0 victory, marking a start to the Clausura 2026 tournament that fuels the dreams of the local fans.
A Dream First Half
From the opening whistle, the "Lanudo" side displayed suffocating intensity, pressing every exit attempt by the military squad. The reward came early: in the 11th minute, following a rebound from a "Chucho" López strike, José Longo fired a long-range shot to score a stunning goal that opened the scoring.
The home side's dominance was further solidified in the 28th minute, when Jesús "Chucho" López displayed his individual brilliance with a clinical finish from the edge of the area, leaving the "Aurinegro" goalkeeper with no chance. Just before the break, in the 45th minute, Javier González connected with a solid header from a set-piece to seal a 3-0 partial lead.
Defensive Solidity and the Final Blow
In the second half, Aurora attempted to fight back in search of a consolation goal but ran into a defensive wall organized by Hernández that neutralized every threat. The icing on the cake arrived in the 65th minute, when Derrikson Quirós capped off the rout with a long-range blast into the top right corner, sparking euphoria in the stands.
With this result, Xelajú earns its first three points with authority, standing as the provisional league leader and confirming that the sporting project under the Mexican manager is off to a perfect start.
