From Malacateco to Boca Juniors? Jhon Córdoba and His Curious Case:

Twenty-four-year-old Colombian player Jhon Córdoba could be Boca Juniors' new reinforcement. This player, who has played for Colombian teams such as Fortaleza, Atlético Huila, and Atlético Bucaramanga (with whom he became champion before being loaned to fellow Colombian club Millonarios), has also played for Guatemala's Malacateco, who currently own his rights. He could become the new player for Argentina's Boca Juniors. His current market value is $1.2 million.

As a right winger, he has played 61 matches, scoring 8 goals and providing four assists. In the left wing position, he has played 22 matches, scoring four goals and providing three assists. As a center forward, he has played 9 matches, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.

With the Colombian team Bucaramanga, he played 42 matches, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists. Malacateco, the Guatemalan team that owns his rights, loaned the player to Bucaramanga. After his excellent performance, culminating in a championship title in the Colombian league, he garnered interest from Millonarios, with whom he has played the current season for a year.

It's rumored that Boca Juniors is interested in the player. Given his market price of $1.2 million, which is quite affordable for the South American player market, especially for the Argentine club, he could be a good transfer option for the upcoming national tournaments that the Xeneize club will soon contest.

With Millonarios, Jhon Córdoba scored 7 goals and provided five assists in 42 matches. During his time in Guatemala's national football league with Malacateco since arriving in 2022, he played 40 matches, scoring 9 goals and providing eight assists. His loan to Millonarios is currently expiring.

Colombians Marino Hinestroza of Atlético Nacional ($4 million) and Jaminton Campaz of Rosario Central ($6 million) are also reportedly in contention to be signed by Boca Juniors. However, Córdoba, with a more accessible price tag, could be the most attractive option for the Argentine directors.

Should this sale from the Guatemalan team to the Argentine club Boca Juniors – an historic South American team, by the way – materialize, it would mark a significant milestone: the sale of a player for a millionaire sum to a foreign team.

This would mark a turning point in Guatemala's transfer market and could be emulated by other teams in the Chapín national football league, both for national and foreign players.

Other teams that have successfully sold national players to foreign clubs in the past include Municipal with Carlos "El Pescado" Ruiz to the Los Angeles Galaxy, and Comunicaciones recently with Nicolás Samayoa to a Romanian team. However, a sale of this magnitude to a foreign team has never occurred before.

What do you think? Do you believe this historic sale will happen? Let us know.
